Step Into the World
Character-by-character costume guides for ACOTAR, Crescent City, Throne of Glass, and Fourth Wing. Find the pieces. Pick your character.
Pick Your Character
Each guide shows the one piece people recognize at a distance, then builds from there. Difficulty ratings are for the full assembled look โ the quick version of any character is always easier.
Black gown or flowing dark dress, star or constellation face paint on one cheekbone, silver jewelry. The face paint is the detail that reads as Night Court Feyre from across a convention floor.
Add a dramatic midnight cape, a star and crescent moon crown, and rhinestone gems to press along the cheekbone. A deep plum gown works if you want color over pure black.
Flowing sage green or blush dress, wildflower crown, and delicate leaf earrings. Feyre's Spring Court look is soft and fae โ feminine with a restrained wildness to it.
Brown or dark green faux-leather jacket, worn trousers, and boots. Feyre starts the story as a mortal hunter keeping her family from starving. Add a bow and quiver prop and it reads immediately.
All black: fitted black trousers, a high-collar black shirt or jacket. Add violet colored contacts if you want. The look alone reads as Rhysand to anyone who's read the books.
Add wings, a long dramatic frock coat, and silver star jewelry. Wings can be large feathered costume wings painted matte black, or a harness worn under a cape that drapes like folded wings.
Silver or icy white dress with a structured warrior belt and silver arm cuffs. Nesta's power came from enchanted objects โ silver metallic details throughout signal her story.
Add the silver crown, a dramatic silver or white cape, and Athalar-style pointed fae ears. This is the Nesta who earned her Valkyrie title โ cold-beautiful, unbreakable.
Black tactical jacket over a dark base, black combat boots, and war paint lines across the cheekbones and jaw. The face paint is Cassian's signature marker and takes five minutes with black face paint.
Add wings and faux leather armor panels or vest. A dark red bracer or sash adds the warrior camp color โ brutal, imposing, ready for anything.
Black hooded cloak over all black, and dark leather gloves covering the hands and wrists. The gloves are the non-negotiable piece โ Azriel's scarred hands are never uncovered. Keep everything muted, not dramatic.
Add a black-bladed knife prop and matte dark wings. Azriel's wings are darker and less prominent than Cassian's, so fabric wings in near-black charcoal work better than feathered ones here.
Deep crimson bodycon or flowing red dress, gold jewelry stacked throughout, long golden blonde hair (wig if needed). The red dress is Mor's most recognized look โ her armor for the political courts.
Mor can teleport, so she doesn't need armor โ she shows up dressed for the occasion and then happens to have wings. Add wings and a gold hair accessory to complete the look.
Auburn or copper wig (if needed), rust or amber tunic, and a steampunk-style mechanical eye patch or gear eye prosthetic. The eye is Lucien's most distinctive feature and the piece that makes the costume click.
Build out the Autumn Court palette in full: rust, amber, burnt orange, and deep gold. Add a cape in autumn-leaf shades, copper jewelry, and pointed fae ears. This is Lucien at his most court-recognizable.
Soft floral dress in blush, ivory, or pale yellow, wildflower crown, and delicate gold jewelry. Elain is the most approachable of the three sisters to costume โ she looks like a fairy-tale princess who spends mornings in the garden.
Add a small wicker basket with faux flower stems as a prop, a soft linen apron layered over the dress, and subtle pointed fae ears. The Seer look keeps the beauty but adds a dreaming, faraway quality to it.
Forest-green tunic or vest over natural earth tones, and the gold leaf masquerade mask. The mask is what makes people say "Tamlin" โ everything else supports it, but the mask is the costume.
Add a dramatic forest-green hooded cloak, Spring Court gold accents throughout, and pointed fae ears. For his beast aspect, fur-trimmed layers add a wilder, more dangerous edge to the nature-king look.
Group & Couples Cosplay
These stories are built around found families. These group combinations are the ones that get recognized immediately at conventions.
The Inner Circle
The Night Court's core group from Book 2 onward. All dark aesthetics, star motifs, and loyalty that cuts both ways. The most recognized group cosplay in the fandom.
The Archeron Sisters
Three sisters, three very different energies. Works as a trio or in any pairing. Feyre and Nesta have the most friction; Elain is the visual contrast that ties the trio together.
Rhysand & Feyre
The High Lord and his mate. He's all shadow and controlled power in black; she's starlight and paint-stained elegance in Night Court silver and violet. The most iconic couple in the series โ instantly recognizable together.
The Spring Court Pair
The original ACOTAR Book 1 duo. Feyre in her early Spring Court look paired with Tamlin's masked, nature-king aesthetic. A natural couples cosplay for the book that started it all.
The Warrior Brothers
Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel โ the Night Court's core trio of power. All wings, all dark leathers, all terrifying in different ways. Works as a full three-person group or in any pairing.
Pick Your Character
Half-humans, fallen angels, and Fae royalty navigating a neon-lit city. Bryce and Hunt are the heart of it โ pick your person.
Fitted jeans or leather pants, a casual blouse or crop top, and a glowing star body paint or adhesive gem on the sternum. The star scar is Bryce's signature โ everything else is stylish street clothes.
Add glowing LED body paint or UV star effect for the scar, gold layered jewelry, and pointed fae ears. For the later books look, dark leathers and combat boots replace the casual aesthetic โ still star scar, always.
Dark tactical outfit, large grey or charcoal wings, and a halo temporary tattoo across the forehead. The halo brand is the piece that identifies Hunt immediately โ without it, he's just a winged figure in black.
Add a dark leather tactical vest or armor panels, wrist restraint cuffs (symbolizing his bound state in earlier books), and combat boots. Grey wings in the largest size you can manage โ Hunt's are enormous.
Black jeans, leather jacket, and dragon arm tattoo sleeves. Ruhn's punk-Fae identity is the whole look โ the tattoo sleeves read immediately as him. Add pointed ears to signal his Fae heritage.
Add a black-bladed sword prop, dark blue or black-tipped hair color spray, and silver jewelry. The Starsword is a black blade that drinks light rather than reflecting it โ flat matte black is exactly right for the prop.
Military-cut ivory blazer or structured jacket, fitted dark trousers, and gold insignia pin. The sharp, deliberate silhouette is the costume โ Lidia looks like she was assembled rather than dressed.
Build out the full fantasy military look: add gold epaulette shoulder details, a fitted ivory bodysuit as a base, and sleek gold jewelry. Cool, controlled, and deliberately intimidating.
Group & Couples Cosplay
The found family at the heart of Crescent City โ from the city's most dangerous couple to the trio that holds everything together.
Bryce & Hunt
The heart of the series. A half-Fae woman with a glowing star scar and a fallen angel with grey wings and a halo brand. Together they are immediately recognizable and visually arresting from any distance.
Pick Your Character
Assassins, witches, princes, and the last heir of a destroyed kingdom. Each character has a look as distinct as their power.
Form-fitting black fighting leathers or a black bodysuit with dark trousers, and turquoise or teal colored contacts. Aelin's assassin era is defined by her eyes โ the striking blue-green that no one forgets โ and the clean, dangerous all-black.
Add a face mask or dark half-mask (her disguise), twin short-sword or dagger props, and a fitted tactical jacket. The mask signals the assassin identity โ once it's on, the character reads immediately.
Gold or ivory formal gown, a glittering crown, and turquoise contacts. The queen look is warm where the assassin is cold โ gold and ember tones throughout, still with those striking turquoise eyes that mark her bloodline.
Silver wig, dark forest-green tactical clothing, and pointed fae ears. Rowan's look is elemental โ he belongs in the forest and dresses like it. The silver hair and pointed ears together read as Fae before anything else registers.
Add a pine-green dramatic cloak, swirling wind-pattern tattoo sleeves (his marks), and a sword prop. The tattoos are his power-bound marks โ dark swirling patterns on the forearms and neck.
Long white wig, dramatic black outfit (robes or structured black dress), and pale silvery-white face makeup. Manon's stark white-and-black contrast is her whole identity. Add iron-effect nail tips and the look is complete.
Add pale grey-white face and body paint, golden witch eyes (yellow contacts), and a black leather witch-style hat or crown. Manon's gold eyes are her one warm feature against the cold white-and-black palette โ they make the whole look.
Deep sapphire blue coat or formal jacket, fitted dark trousers, and a silver signet-style ring. Sapphire is the Havilliard dynasty color โ anything in that deep blue reads immediately as Dorian to anyone who knows the books.
Add a silver crown, sapphire gem jewelry, and dark shadow-effect body paint on the hands and forearms for his magic. Dorian's shadow magic manifests as darkness that pools from his hands โ dark body paint or fingerless black gloves capture this.
Group & Couples Cosplay
The found family that saved a continent โ from the legendary couple to the cadre that changed everything.
Aelin & Rowan
The queen and her fated mate. Her gold and turquoise against his silver hair and forest greens create a striking visual contrast โ warmth and coldness, fire and wind, exactly as the books describe them.
The Cadre
Aelin, Rowan, Manon, and Dorian โ the core four who carry the endgame. Four very distinct looks that read as a unit: queen gold, warrior silver-green, witch white-black, and royal sapphire.
Pick Your Character
Dragon riders in dark military leathers with lightning-mark tattoos and bond marks that prove who survived. The war college look is earned, never assumed.
Dark fitted leathers or black base outfit, lightning bolt temporary tattoos on the forearms, and a silver hair streak. The lightning marks are Violet's bond mark tattoos โ they appeared when she bonded her dragon. The silver streak is her most distinctive physical feature.
Add a dragon rider harness or chest plate prop, arm bracers with lightning detail, and combat boots. The harness signals rider status immediately โ dragon riding gear is the visual language of the war college.
All black โ everything. Dark tactical jacket, black combat trousers, black boots. Add a rebellion relic temporary tattoo on the left side of the neck: a dark, swirling intricate mark that creeps up toward the jaw. Without it, it's just black clothes. With it, it's unmistakably Xaden.
Add dark shadow body paint on the hands and forearms (his shadow magic manifests there), a black dragon rider harness, and a dark cloak. The shadow effect on the hands is the visual signature of his power โ dark paint that fades toward the wrists.
Brown leather jacket or vest over a warm-toned base outfit, braided hair with a simple leather cord, and copper or amber jewelry. Rhiannon's look is warm and grounded โ earthy colors that contrast with the sharper aesthetics of the other riders.
Add earth-tone arm bracers, riding gloves, and a rider harness prop in brown leather. The earth magic aesthetic comes through in the warm, natural material choices โ nothing synthetic, nothing shiny.
Military-cut brown jacket with structured shoulders, dark fitted trousers, and gold command insignia pin. Dain's look is structured precision โ squared collar, nothing out of place. The insignia marks his rank.
Add a structured rider harness over the jacket, combat boots, and a full military rank badge display. Dain's full look is the war college dress uniform taken seriously โ every piece earned, every detail intentional.
Group & Couples Cosplay
The riders who survived together. The couple whose bond defied everything. These are the combinations that fans recognize immediately.
Violet & Xaden
The silver-streaked bookworm with lightning marks and the all-black shadow rider with his rebellion relic tattoo. Together they are a study in contrast โ her reluctant power against his controlled danger. The most recognized pairing in the series.
The War College Riders
Violet, Xaden, Rhiannon, and Dain โ the core four from the war college. Four distinct looks that read as a unit: silver lightning, all-black shadow, warm earth tones, and military precision.
Tips for Fantasy Cosplay
Four things that determine whether a costume reads from across the room or only close up.
Find the one recognizable piece first
Every character has a single element that makes people say the name from across a convention hall. Rhysand's violet eyes. Tamlin's gold mask. Lucien's mechanical eye. Mor's red dress. Build outward from that piece โ it's the anchor everything else supports.
Series palette reads from a distance
If specific pieces aren't in budget, lean on the series color language. ACOTAR Night Court: black, purple, silver. Spring Court: forest green and gold. Crescent City: deep city blues and warm amber. Throne of Glass: ember gold and forest green. Fourth Wing: dark military brown and black with lightning accents. Color-coding works before anyone sees a prop.
Wings at conventions: plan ahead
Winged costumes are iconic but take significant space. At a crowded convention, articulating wings that fold flat are worth the extra cost. Check venue prop policies before you commit to a wingspan โ some have limits. Fabric and foam wings are easier to manage than feathered ones in a crowd.
Ear tips make it fae
Silicone pointed ear tips are the single most cost-effective upgrade in ACOTAR cosplay. Applied with spirit gum, they sit on the outside of your own ear and stay put through a full convention day. Matched to your skin tone, they read effortlessly and photograph beautifully โ a simple detail that transforms any look into fae royalty.
